WashU Public Health Faculty Scholars engage in innovative public health research, practice, advocacy and education at the university, in and around the St. Louis region and across the world. Here are a few recent awards and honors amplifying their work.
Public Health Faculty Scholars Fred Ssewamala and Proscovia Nabunya, both faculty at WashU’s Brown School, have been named 2025 Fellows of the Society for Social Work and Research. Mary McKay, executive vice provost, SMART Africa principal investigator, and former dean of the Brown School, was also named a 2025 Fellow. Read more.
Public Health Faculty Scholars, Jeremy Goldbach and Jin Huang, also Brown School faculty have been named 2025 Fellows of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare. Read about their honor.
Leopoldo J. Cabassa, co-director of the Center for Mental Health Services Research, this month was invited to present the 2025 Aaron Rosen Lecture at the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) annual conference in Seattle. Established in conjunction with the Brown School, the Aaron Rosen Lecture is one of the highest honors in social work research.
Timothy McBride, the Bernard Becker Professor at the WashU Brown School, has received the 2024 Rural Excellence in Advocacy Award from the Missouri Rural Health Association. McBride is also co-director of the Center for Advancing Health Services, Policy & Economic Research.
The Institute for Public Health Deputy Director, Graham Colditz, the Niess-Gain Professor and Chief of the Division of Public Health Sciences at WashU School of Medicine, recently received the Brinker Award for Scientific Distinction in Population Science for leading critical advancements in breast cancer prevention and treatment.
